PETALING JAYA, Jan 8 — The police will require at least RM15 million to repair or replace all their assets in Kelantan destroyed by the floods, the Bukit Aman Logistics Department revealed yesterday.
Its director, Datuk Pahlawan Zulkifli Abdullah, said the affected stations were, however, still operational and continued to serve the public.
“For other states like Terengganu and Pahang, we are still gathering information about total assets damaged. We will collect all the information and submit to the government for special provisions,” he said.
Zulkifli said he had instructed police chiefs of affected states to send reports on what assets were destroyed or damaged.
He pointed out that among the assets damaged were investigation papers.
“So far, the ruined investigation papers were only reported in Kelantan, other states did not report similar damage.”
However, Zulkifli said the damage to the investigation papers would not affect cases or when charging suspects in court as the police are able to fall back on the Police Reporting System (PRS) database.
“It will not affect anything as we have everything in our system.”
Zulkifli said police are now urgently looking into communication breakdown in affected police stations.
“All affected police stations are still in operation but there are some with faulty telecommunication so we are now in the midst of fixing them and the relevant authorities are helping us.”
Zulkifli said the main focus at the moment was to ensure police operations in flood affected areas could proceed smoothly.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim had said earlier that 24 police stations in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang were damaged by the floods.
Nineteen police stations were damaged in Kelantan, four in Terengganu and one in Pahang. In addition, 900 policemen in those states were also flood victims.
