KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 1 ― The number of flood victims in Perak continues to rise this afternoon while the situation in three east coast states is improving.

In Perak, the number of flood victims rose to 7,412 people from 2,018 families compared to 7,360 people from 1,998 families at noon.

Hulu Perak recorded 764 people, Kuala Kangsar (1,210 people), Kerian (107 people) and Manjung (84 people).

A State National Security Council (NSC) spokesman said Perak Tengah had the highest number with 5,247 people in 20 evacuation centres.

In Pahang, the number of flood victims dropped to 45,366 people from 48,960, said a state flood operations room spokesman.

Temerloh district had the highest number with 20,962 victims, Pekan (11,220 people), Jerantut (4,563 people), Bera (3,228 people), Maran (2,562 people), Lipis (1,641), Kuantan (1,085 people) and Rompin (105 people).

In Terengganu, the number of flood victims in relief centres dropped to 8,664 people from 8,996 people, said the State National Security Council (NSC).

Of the total, 4,289 people were from Dungun, Kemaman (4,238 people) and Kuala Terengganu (137 people).

In Kelantan, the number of flood victims in relief centres dropped to 42,163 people from 44,081 people, said the State National Security Council (NSC).               

Tanah Merah had the most with 14,184 people, Tumpat (9,524 people), Kuala Krai (5,645 people), Kota Baharu (4,271 people), Machang (3,769 people), Gua Musang (3,006 people), and Pasir Mas (1,764 people).

In Johor, the number of flood victims remained at 138 from two districts, namely Segamat (93 people) and Batu Pahat (45 people). ― Bernama
