KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 31— Six bodies from missing AirAsia flight QZ8501, including one flight attendant has been recovered so far, US broadcaster CNN reported this morning quoting Indonesian search-and-rescue officials.

“Six bodies from AirAsia QZ8501 have been recovered, including one crew, Indonesia’s top search and rescue official says,” said a CNN report on its website quoting Indonesian search and rescue chief Bambang Soelistyo as saying.

The report also quoted him as saying that the six bodies recovered comprised of three men and three women, and that one of the women found was wearing a flight attendant’s uniform.

Yesterday the search chief said just three bodies had been recovered so far, after another official had claimed 40 had been found.

AFP quoted navy spokesman Manahan Simorangkir as saying that according to naval radio a warship had recovered more than 40 bodies from the sea.

But It was clarified later that the report was the result of a  miscommunication.

Flight QZ8501 had a total of 162 people on board, 155 of which were Indonesians, three South Koreans, one Malaysian, one Singaporean, one Frenchman and one Briton. No Chinese nationals were on board.

Aircraft debris and some bodies from Flight QZ8501 were discovered yesterday from the Java Sea off the coast of Borneo, about two and a half days after the A320 jet was reported to have lost contact with Indonesian air traffic control.

A search-and-rescue effort by nine countries involving at least 15 aircraft and 30 ships have yet to recover any survivors.

Bad weather in the monsoon-prone region halted recovery efforts this morning, international newswire AFP reported Indonesia’s air force rescue coordinator S.B. Supriyadi as saying.
