KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 31 — Petroliam Nasional Bhd (Petronas) has embarked on a group-wide Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative and a donation drive to assist flood victims in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.
Petronas said its subsidiary, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd, had mobilised two of its helicopters to assist the National Security Council in a flood relief operation for two weeks, costing RM3.6 million.
Another subsidiary, Petronas Dagangan Bhd (PDB) has contributed RM20,000 worth of fuel for generators at relief centres and hospitals as well as vehicles to carry aid to relief centres, Petronas said in a statement.
Its senior general manager of group strategic communications, Norliza Kamaruddin said Petronas also contributed RM600,000 worth of cooking gas, stoves, raw foods, mineral water, blankets, mattresses, basic cleaning and personal hygiene kits, batteries, candles, torch lights, power banks, and baby disposable diapers.
She said Petronas had also mobilised a 100-member disaster relief team, comprising its employees, and activated the “We Care Programme”, a staff volunteer programme, to help affected staff and the clean-up activity.
"Petronas is deeply concerned with the well-being of flood victims and hopes that the group-wide effort will help ease their burden," she said.
Meanwhile, the Wives and Women Staff Association of Petronas, in collaboration with Prince Court Medical Centre, has started a donation drive among its staff and members in anticipation of a third wave of floods.
"The donations will be used to buy basic necessities which would be delivered to affected areas from Jan 1 to 31, 2015," she said, adding that post-flood relief aid was also in the pipeline.
