21 deaths recorded in flood-hit states, says IGP

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 30 — Police recorded 21 fatalities in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang while 10 others are still missing following the floods occurring in the three states this time.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said, Kelantan recorded the highest number of fatalities with 14 deaths while four were still missing, followed by Terengganu which recorded four deaths and five missing.

Pahang had three deaths and one missing, he told a media conference after the ceremony to hand over aid contributions for the flood victims involving police personnel at the Federal Police Headquarters in Bukit Aman, here.

He said the police had directed 9,880 officers and men from outside to assist flood victims in the affected states.

“Twenty-four police stations are affected by the floods with 19 stations in Kelantan, four in Terengganu and one in Perak.

“Six police reports have also been lodged involving theft during the floods.

Police have deployed additional personnel in locations where we expect shop break-ins and so on to occur,” he added. — Bernama
