KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 29 — Rumours have emerged that the wreckage of missing Indonesia AirAsia Flight QZ8501 has been found, a UK Telegraph reporter said today.

The paper’s China correspondent Tom Phillips tweeted from Surabaya, Indonesia, that another press conference has been called after Indonesia’s National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) chief Bambang Soelistyo told reporters earlier today that the plane carrying 162 people on board had likely crashed in the Java Sea.

“Looks like +1 presser coming up. Rumours wreckage found,” Phillips tweeted from his @tomphillipsin Twitter account, which was reported by The Guardian.

“Senior aviation official tells me ‘we hope we can hear good news’ abt survivors from #QZ8501,” he added.

Flight QZ8501 disappeared from Jakarta’s radar at 6.18am local time yesterday amid stormy weather enroute to Singapore from Surabaya.

On board the Airbus A320 jet were 155 Indonesians, three South Koreans, one Malaysian, one Singaporean, one Frenchman and one Briton, comprising 155 passengers and seven crew members.

The plane’s last known position was between the Indonesian port of Tanjung Pandan and the town of Pontianak in West Kalimantan on Borneo island.
