Shabery: Ministry to restore communications system disrupted by floods

KOTA BARU, Dec 29 ― The Ministry of Communications and Multimedia will continue efforts to ensure communication systems, including mobile telephone services disrupted due to the severe floods in the state, will be restored soon.

Its Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek said so far not all mobile phone services were affected because service by some service providers was still available.

“With certain service providers still operating while others not operating, it all depends on the company,” he told reporters after attending a briefing, to review the ministry's effectiveness in managing communication issues in the state here tonight.

Ministry Secretary-general Datuk Seri Dr Sharifah Zarah Syed Ahmad gave the briefing.

Ahmad Shabery also expressed regret because the Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) transmitter here could not function due to lack of electricity.

“Due to the lack of electricity, the FM Kelantan radio could not go on air for several days. Our priority is to restore the radio station,” he said.

He also thanked amateur radio association for continuing to provide broadcast services and information. ― Bernama
