Malaysians issue rally call for flood victims with #BantuanBanjir

PETALING JAYA, Dec 29 — Social media users responded to the ongoing flood relief efforts with a rallying call for more assistance as well as a show of support for aid givers.

Messages poured in for aid givers on Twitter, with many commending others for providing assistance to the flood victims.

User Nad (@lilythevitte) tweeted: “While I was in the car, saw a man with #bantuanbanjir aid placed at the back of his car. May God assist him.”

Sophie Sopeah (‏@iAmPeah) said the flurry of assistance for the victims restored her faith in Malaysians.

“Last night I was overwhelmed to see many donors flooding the Bandar Utama Complex. Malaysian citizens are really caring folks. #BantuanBanjir,” she tweeted.

Many netizens also queried how they could pitch in to assist the relief efforts.

Zaki Fuad (@ZakiyFuad), from Shah Alam, requested for details of the nearest collection centre.

“Hi, are there any collection centres still operating in Shah Alam? I want to help too. #BantuanBanjir #PrayForMalaysia #PrayForPantaiTimur,” he posted.

Sy Syufina (@cutiesfie) from Kuala Lumpur asked if there were any collection centres in the city.

“Does anyone know which collection centre around KL is still accepting donations in the form of physical goods? Especially clothes #BantuanBanjir,” she tweeted.

Others took the opportunity to solicit additional assistance for the victims, posting banners calling for the public to donate to the cause.

Shahrizal Azali (‏@ChaozCrazee) rallied fellow netizens, posting: “#BantuanBanjir. Let’s together help to reduce the burden of those involved”, while Edreen Firdauz (@ed_eddiee), posted: “Let’s help the people of the East Coast. Maybe even a small amount of help can go a long way for them. #Pray4PantaiTimur #bantuanbanjir.”

Niya Adriane (‏@AieNiya ) reminded aid givers to care for furry flood victims.

“And please, don’t forget pet food for the animals that were saved.  #bantuanbanjir,” she said.

The spirit of #BantuanBanjir was summed by Norain Azlan’s (‏@NorainAzlan) tweet, which read: “We cant help everyone, but everyone can help someone. #prayforpantaitimur #bantuanbanjir”.
