He said the ministry would always monitor the situation at all flood-hit areas and would discuss with all the relevant agencies from time to time on their current requirements to help the victims.

“The allocation will be increased. The RM50 million (announced earlier) is an immediate allocation,” he told Bernama here today.

Yesterday, the ministry announced that it had approved an immediate allocation of RM50 million for the states being ravaged by the worsening floods.

Ahmad Maslan said the allocation had been distributed and channelled to state development office and Implementation and Coordination Unit to purchase necessary equipment.

As at 3pm today, the number of flood victims in Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Perak, Johor, Kedah and Perlis stood at 118,896.

In Shah Alam, Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali announced that the state government would give RM1 million to Kelantan, and RM100,000 each to Pahang, Terengganu and Perak to help flood victims in the states.

He said Selangor government had also set aside an allocation of RM200,000 for humanitarian aid mission to be mounted by the Selangor Humanitarian Aid Mission Organisation (Pantas).

“For post-flood cleaning programme, the state government has also agreed to provide help to clean the affected areas,” he told a press conference here today.

He said the state government would also seek financial support from its subsidiaries and government-linked companies, as well as from private companies in Selangor, to provide school necessities for schoolchildren in the flood-hit states.

As a gesture of sympathy for the flood victims, Mohamed Azmin said all new year celebrations scheduled to take place in Selangor would be cancelled. — Bernama
