KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 ― Police rescued two Myanmar nationals who were believed to be victims of human trafficking, in a chase during their patrol rounds.

The incident unfolded on Thursday midnight, when the patrol unit noticed two men behaving suspiciously on Jalan Maharajalela.

Dang Wangi police chief ACP Zainol Samah said his men had tried to stop the black Naza Ria car, with two passengers in the back seat. The driver, however, sped off towards the Federal Highway.

The chase ensued until Bandar Sri Permaisuri in Cheras where the driver lost control of the vehicle and ended up crashing into a divider.

"Initial investigations revealed the duo were involved in a large human trafficking syndicate and the two in the back seat were Myanmar nationals believed to be victims of the syndicate," Zainol said.

"The two suspects who are locals are being detained to help identify the other syndicate members."

The two Myanmar nationals were released after their documents were checked."
