PETALING JAYA, Dec 6 ― A former high ranking police officer was given the shivers when his pistol was stolen in broad daylight.
Former Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department deputy director Datuk Ramli Karim lost his car and pistol during a robbery in front of his daughter's house at 9.20am.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Azmi Abu Kassim said Ramli, 68, had gone to his daughter's house in Damansara Kim to fetch his grandson and head to a golf course.
"As soon as the victim pulled over in front of the house, he got down from the car and went to ring the door bell to call out for his grandson. Suddenly four men on two motorcycles stopped beside his car," Azmi said.
He said Ramli suspected that the four men were robbers and believed they were armed.
"One of the pillion riders got down from the motorcycle and and sat inside the victim's Volvo S80," Azmi said.
"The key was still in the ignition and the victim screamed for help before his car was driven off."
Azmi said the suspect came out of the car and pushed Ramli to the ground before fleeing with his accomplices.
"The victim said the incident happened within seconds. He also suffered light injuries when he was pushed to the ground," he said.
Azmi said the victim had kept his 9mm pistol and bullets kept in the car for safety, as well as important documents.
He said police had launched a manhunt for the four suspects and investigations were under way.
Ramli retired from the force in 1999.
