SHAH ALAM, Nov 26 — The Selangor government has instructed state-run universities and colleges to expel students confirmed to be involved in militancy, the state legislative assembly was told today.

Education, Human Capital Development and Science, Technology and Innovation Committee chairman Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said militant activities were against Islamic teachings and undermined national security.

He was replying to a question from Budiman Mohd Zohdi (BN-Sungai Panjang) on the action taken by the Selangor government against tertiary students found to be involved in militancy.

The police recently confirmed that a student of the Selangor International Islamic University College (Kuis) went to Syria on October 4 for alleged participation in the militant activities of the so-called Islamic State (IS) group.

The college said in a statement later that the student had been expelled. — Bernama
