SEREMBAN, Nov 25 — A 60-year-old man was relieved of RM56,900 he had just withdrawn from a bank here last Thursday.

In the 12.30pm incident in a busy business centre on Jalan Rasah, the man was robbed of the money he carried in a bag, in front of witnesses.

The robbers then bundled him and the bag of money into their car before speeding of only to drop him off a few minutes later.

Seremban district police chief ACP Muhammad Zaki Hamzah said: “From witness accounts, three of the robbers carrying machetes surrounded the elderly man before bundling him into their car with an accomplice at the wheel.

“We believe the robbers had trailed the victim and observed him making the withdrawal,” said Muhammad Zaki.

He said the victim was hurt in a scuffle with the robbers and received four stitches on his forehead at a clinic.

Police have heightened police patrols in the area where similar cases had occurred.

But to date, no arrests have been made.

Resident C. Sathasivam claimed that at least five robberies involving people coming out of the bank had taken place in the past two years.

“It is probably due to the lack of security in the area.

“Despite regular policing, the bank has often attracted criminals,” said Sathasivam.

He said there was a possibility the robbers had inside help.
