KUALA TERENGGANU, Nov 25 — The number of flood victims in Kuala Terengganu, one of the worst flood-hit areas in Terengganu, remained the same as this morning, at 247 people.
According to the portal of the National Security Council (MKN) in Terengganu, the 56 families affected by the floods have been sent to an evacuation centre, the Sekolah Kebangsaan Kompleks Gong Badak, here.
With the good weather today, there is a possibility that many victims would be allowed to go home.
In Kedah, the flood relief centres opened at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Changlun in Kubang Pasu and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Paya Kemunting in Jitra were closed this morning.
The Kedah MKN portal stated that SMK Changlun which sheltered 253 people from 86 families was closed at 9am while the 375 victims from 99 families at SMK Paya Kmenunting were allowed to go home at 10am.
As of 4pm today, seven relief centres remained open, sheltering 486 victims from 122 families in Jitra and Kota Setar.
In Perak, the number of flood victims at Sekolah Kebangsaan Changkat Jong, Teluk Intan, rose to 310 people as compared to 146 this morning.
Hilir Perak Civil Defence Department officer Mohd Fazly Mohamad Zawawi said the families were brought to the shelter in stages until 2pm.
He added that rain had stopped in the area for now and that the water level at Sungai Bidor dropped to 3.65 metres, but was still above the danger level of 3.5 metres.
The families affected were from Lorong Mesra, Batu 7; Lorong Kedah, Batu 8; Batu 11 and Kampung Batu 9.
This is the second time they were hit by floods with the first incident happening on November 14. — Bernama
