KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 — DAP threatened more court action against Utusan Malaysia today if the Umno-owned daily continues to harangue the party with “lies” that its internal polls last year had been rigged.
DAP national organising secretary Anthony Loke Siew Fook said the editorial published today by the daily’s editors contained repeated falsehoods, which he said was aimed at convincing the public that the party leadership lacks credibility.
“Utusan Malaysia’s tactic is to continuously repeat their lies and slanderous remarks, with the hope that when a lie is repeated a hundred times, people will eventually believe it to be true,” Loke said in a statement here.
“The DAP will not hesitate to drag Utusan Malaysia back to court if they continue lying about the credibility of the party’s central leadership,” he warned.
In an editorial today, Awang Selamat, who represents the collective voice of the daily’s editors, accused the DAP of continuing its operations despite failing to obtain recognition from the Registrar of Societies (RoS) of the legitimacy of its Central Executive Committee (CEC).
Awang also noted that 120 party branches have yet to be registered by the party, although its members were allowed to vote during the internal polls last year.
But Loke denied this, pointing out that the list of delegates who voted during last year’s polls in September were the same who voted in 2012.
“There were no changes in the (2012) delegates list that was used for the re-election in September that was ordered by the RoS,” he said.
He said the 120 branches that Awang was referring to were new units that were formed in stages only since May last year.
None of its members were in the list of delegates eligible to vote, he added.
