KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 13 — The Syrian authorities and Islamic State militant group (IS) have not confirmed the identities and number of Malaysians injured and killed when participating in militant activities, says Home Deputy Minister Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He said although the ministry had the information from intelligence sources, it was not confirmed by the Syrian authorities and IS.

“We did not make any contact with them but I am sure of the information I have in my hand... nevertheless, I will not read (the information) to all. We know who they are, who died and so on... we know.

“As we do not have official confirmation from the parties in conflict, we cannot make any official announcement,” he told reporters when met at the Parliament lobby here today.

He was commenting on a former student of Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor, Syamimi Faiqah who was reported to have gone to Syria on October 4, allegedly to join IS. — Bernama
