The additional LRT line costing RM9 billion will complement the network that is now undergoing expansion to connect the existing Kelana Jaya line to one that runs to Putra Heights, due to be completed in 2016.

The government will also begin construction on the second line of the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT), to run from Selayang to Putrajaya at an estimated cost of RM23 billion. Work is already underway on the first line running from Sungai Buloh to Kajang.

The highways are the Sungai Besi-Ulu Klang Expressway (SUKE) at RM5.3 billion, the 276km West Coast Expressway from Taiping to Banting costing RM5 billion, the 47km Damansara-Shah Alam Highway (DASH) at RM4.2 billion and the 36km Eastern Klang Valley Expressway (EKVE) at a total construction cost of RM1.6 billion.

DASH is one of two highways drawing controversy in Selangor, the other being the Kinrara-Damansara Expressway (Kidex) that was not included in the announcement.

Najib also announced upgrades for the East Coast railway line along Gemas-Mentakab, Jerantut-Sungai Yu and Gua Musang-Tumpat with an allocation of RM150 million.

The infrastructure will be a part of Putrajaya’s effort to accelerate public and private investments.
