KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — PKR lawyer Latheefa Koya rubbished claims that she made a death threat against Umno MP Datuk Bung Moktar Radin, warning that she will sue anyone who insists on the allegedly “false and mischievous” claim.
Latheefa, who engaged in an argument with the Kinabatangan MP over the continued existence of the Sedition Act 1948, disagreed that her posting on Twitter yesterday amounted to a “death threat”.
“I wish to state, that at no point have I ever made such a threat to Bung Mukhtar and my tweet cannot be construed as a death threat by any stretch of imagination,” she said in a statement today.
Latheefa criticised today the police report that Kinabatangan Umno members is said to have lodged against her, calling it a “mischievously orchestrated” move to allegedly “intimidate” and pressure the police to act even when no crime had been committed.
“Precious police resources to fight real crime must not be wasted on petty politically-motivated actions by certain Umno members,” she said.
Yesterday, Bung Moktar said in Parliament that those calling for the abolition of the Sedition Act must be arrested and investigated under the same law, accusing the legislation’s critics of harbouring “ill intentions” and committing sedition.
This prompted Latheefa to tweet in Malay that the Kinabatangan MP should be eliminated first before the Sedition Act is abolished, a post which she later deleted but confirmed posting it.
Bung Moktar Radin then asked police through Twitter yesterday to investigate Latheefa for allegedly calling for his “elimination” and making the purported “threat”, adding that he will formally lodge a report if she fails to apologise within 24 hours.
Yesterday, Latheefa replied to Bung on Twitter, claiming that the Umno Supreme Councillor is being “childish” by using the police as his own bodyguards and was intimidating an anti-Sedition Act activist.
In July, Bung had caused a stir in the international media for tweeting a salute to dead Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler following a win by Germany in a World Cup semi-final match, which led to a rebuke from Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
