Hishammuddin’s mother, Tun Suhailah, dies at 82

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 4 — Tun Suhailah Mohamad Noah, widow of Malaysia’s third prime minister Tun Hussein Onn, and mother of Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin passed away today.

She was 82.

According to a statement from the Defence Ministry’s office, she passed on at the KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital in Petaling Jaya, of old age.         

Her remains would be brought home to Bukit Tunku here.          

The public can pay their last respects at the family’s residence at No 19, Jalan Changkat Tunku, Bukit Tunku here from 9am.          

The remains would later be brought to Masjid Negara at 12pm for special prayers before burial after Zohor prayers at the Heroes’ Mausoleum within the vicinity.         

Born on Oct 24, 1931, Suhailah left behind six children comprising four daughters and two sons including Hishammuddin.          

She was conferred the Seri Setia Mahkota (SSM) which carries the title Tun(1990), by the Federal Government and awarded the Sri Kandi by the Malaysian Girl Guides Association.          

Meanwhile, Tun Hussein was 68 when he succumbed to a heart attack on May 29, 1990 in San Francisco, United States.         

He was also buried at the Heroes’ Mausoleum at Masjid Negara. — Bernama
