KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 3 — Two members of the Sikh community yesterday sought for police to investigate comments posted on a pro-Barisan Nasional (BN) Facebook page that they deemed to have demeaned Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism.

While the exact nature of the offending post on the Friends of BN Facebook page was unclear, the Star Online news portal reported lawyer Gurmukh Singh as categorising the comments as ridiculing the first Sikh guru’s hair and turban.

Gurmukh earlier lodged a police report together with a Mandeep Singh.

“We wear our turbans like how kings would wear their crowns,” he told The Star Online, after lodging the report at the Dang Wangi police station last night.

Gurmukh said the Facebook comment was racist and uncalled for, and that the user should have not made such insensitive remarks.

“I hope the relevant authorities will take action against the culprit,” he added.

In a similar case yesterday, a hotel supervisor pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to a charge of making a statement on his Facebook page which insulted the mamak (Indian Muslim) community and Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress (Kimma).

National news agency Bernama reported Rajaretinam as having allegedly committed the offence under Section 504 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term of up to two years or a fine, or both.
