KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 — Two men believed to be foreign nationals stole RM303,000 from two automated teller machines (ATM) in a bank in Petaling Jaya yesterday.

Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Azmi Abu Kassim said the theft was discovered by a bank officer who did checking following a similar incident at the bank’s other branches yesterday.

“At 6.30pm yesterday, the bank manager and officer found RM33,500 was withdrawn using ATM cards while RM303,000 had disappeared, believed due to hacking.

“The balance in the ATM machine was only RM3,500,” he told Bernama when contacted.

Bernama today reported that RM530,600 in two banks in Johor and Selangor was stolen after the ATMs were hacked using SIM cards and sophisticated technology.

Azmi said a study of CCTV footage showed two suspects opening the top portion of the two ATMs and put something inside at 12.30am. — Bernama
