SUNGAI PETANI, Sept 28 — Police have arrested a 33-year-old mechanic and seized 54 kg of marijuana worth about RM86,400, under Ops Cantas in Taman Sutera, near here, last Wednesday.
Kuala Muda district deputy chief OCPD Supt Mohd Sabri Mohamad @ Ahmad said police found 56 slabs of compressed dried leaves suspected to be marijuana in the living room of a house rented by the suspect during the raid.
“Our investigations revealed that the suspect, who is being remanded for six days until this Tuesday, had no previous criminal record.
“Police also seized two cars, a Proton Iswara and a Wira, estimated to be worth RM25,000, under Section 32 of the Dangerous Drugs Act (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988 (Act 340), for further investigation,” he told a press conference at Kuala Muda police headquarters here today.
Mohd Sabri said he did not rule out the possibility of a drug trafficking syndicate involvement but investigations were ongoing.
“We believe the drugs seized were actually about to be distributed in the local market, so far only one suspect has been arrested,” he said. — Bernama
