JOHOR BAHRU, Sept 9 — Two notorious secret societies were found to have been 'stakeholders' in a drug trafficking syndicate when the police routed its operations in Johor last Friday, seizing 76kg of syabu and heroin worth about RM11 million.

The drugs — believed to be for local, Singaoporean and Indonesian markets — are believed to be the largest seized in a single police operation in the country, thus far.

A woman and eight men, including an Indian national, were found to have links to secret societies 'Gang 36' and 'Gang 21' when they were detained in 11 successive raids.

The raids were mounted at a syndicate-owned oil palm plantation in Labis near Segamat where a drug-processing laboratory was uncovered, followed by several houses and a hotel where drugs were stored, and in Kulaijaya, Kluang and Segamat.

Bukit Aman Narcotics CID director Datuk Noor Rashid Ibrahim said investigations revealed 'Gang 36' and 'Gang 21' gang members were involved in the drug syndicate which also owned the oil palm plantation. — Bernama
