Earthquake rattles Sabah’s east coast

KOTA KINABALU, Sept 5 — An earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale shook the town of Kunak on Sabah’s east coast at 9.15am today.

Sabah Meteorological Department director Abdul Malek Tussin confirmed the earthquake to be some 11km south of Kunak town.

The tremors, which lasted several seconds, were felt in Kunak, Lahad Datu, Semporna and Tawau.

Police said that no damage has been reported so far.

A resident in Kunak said that the tremors were not violent enough to cause alarm, with many unsure that they were experiencing an earthquake.
