KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 31 — A group of 665 Malaysians from all walks of life came together on the country’s 57th Merdeka Day anniversary celebrations today in a bid to break the Guinness World Record for the most self-portrait photographs or selfie, taken in an hour.
Student Muhammad Hazwan Md Nor, 20, appointed the ‘selfie-guy’ for today’s event, took selfie with at least 10 people per minute to achieve the grand total of 665 selfie.
Of the 665, 52 were disqualified by witnesses, leaving 613 selfie to be considered in the record-breaking attempt.
Organised by Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia (YIM) under the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry, it was an attempt to topple the current record of 421.
The official result is expected to be announced by Guinness World Record officials within a month.
Present at the event was Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Dr Abu Bakar Mohamad Diah.
