KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 — Six men ‘hammered’ their way to a RM900,000 jewellery heist when they struck a gems shop located at a supermarket in Cheras this afternoon.
The hold-up was over within three minutes.
The robbers wearing ski-masks and armed with hammers took away 20 trays of an assortment of jewellery from the shop in Taman Connaught about 12.30pm.
Cheras police deputy chief Supt Abd Rahim Hamzah Othman said during the incident, one of the robbers was armed with what appeared to be a pistol.
However, the man merely brandished the object without threatening the two workers at the gems shop, he said.
“In the heist, four of the robbers smashed the display showcases with hammers and took away 20 trays of jewellery,” he told reporters at the scene of the crime.
Abd Rahim said the robbers escaped in a car driven by an accomplice.
He said the police would check the footage of the recording obtained from a closed-circuit television camera installed at an adjoining shop. — Bernama
