HULU LANGAT, Aug 23 — Come early October, the police will deploy 30 electric motorcycles for crime-prevention patrols in Kuala Lumpur to save on fuel and ensure clean exhaust emissions.

Bukit Aman Logistics Department director Datuk Zulkifli Abdullah said apart from the electric motorcycles, the force also planned to use hybrid patrol cars.

“The use of hybrid engines is expected to save 35 per cent in fuel cost and reduce carbon emission by 30 per cent,” he said, adding that the use of the two types of vehicles was still in the study stage.

Zulkifli was speaking to reporters after attending a programme, ‘My Green Youth Camp’ jointly organised by the police, energy, green technology and water technology and the Malaysian Green Technology Corporation here today.

The three-day programme was attended by 75 secondary school students from among police families and police cadets, aimed at educating them on the need to protect the environment. — Bernama
