SHAH ALAM, Aug 18 — Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim had requested to meet with the Selangor Sultan overseas to explain the latest developments over the mentri besar issue, a palace official confirmed today.
But the mentri besar was told to wait until the Sultan returns in the “next few days” to discuss the matter, the ruler’s private secretary Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani said in a statement.
“I have received Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim’s request to meet with His Royal Highness the Sultan of Selangor overseas to explain the latest political developments in Selangor as well his position as Selangor mentri besar.
“Nevertheless the Sultan has decreed that Tan Sri Khalid waits until His Royal Highness returns home in the next few days,” said Munir.
Pakatan Rakyat (PR) has settled on PKR president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as its sole candidate to replace incumbent Selangor Mentri Besar Khalid, bringing an end to the months-long bickering within the three-party pact.
The decision was reached by consensus yesterday despite PAS’s proposal just hours earlier to add PKR deputy president Azmin Ali to the list, providing the Selangor palace an alternative choice.
MB Khalid has said that he is aware of PAS’s latest position, and would seek an audience with the Sultan to explain matters and his position as state mentri besar.
The Selangor Sultan is currently away on an overseas trip and is scheduled to return on August 27.
