KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 — The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is cooperating with the police in investigation a case where Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah was insulted by an individual on Facebook.

MCMC chairman Datuk Mohamed Sharil Tarmizi said an investigation is ongoing on the owner of the Facebook account who goes by the name of “Chandra Lawan Tetap Lawan” to ensure the person involved is brought to justice.

“In connection with this, MCMC urges all quarters not to engage in any speculation regarding this issue as it can affect the investigation and sanctity of the institution of the royalty,” he said in a statement uploaded on MCMC’s official Facebook site today.

It was reported that the irresponsible individual had deliberately insulted Tuanku Abdul Halim by uploading a photograph of a horrific road accident with an edited picture of His Majesty on it in his or her account.

Mohamed Sharil said at the same time, MCMC also wished to remind the people not to spread unverified information on social media. This was feared could cause tension among the multiracial society in Malaysia, he said. — Bernama
