Agriculture minister cuts up HSBC credit card in Gaza protest

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 — Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakub today cancelled his usage of a credit card issued by a foreign bank as a mark of protest against the bank for closing the account of charitable organisations that support the Palestinian struggle recently.

Ismail in his instagram account, @ismailsabri60 uploaded a photograph of himself cutting his credit card together with another photograph of a letter informing that he wished to cancel his account with immediate effect.

“This is a protest against the bank for closing the account of organisations that support the Palestinian people. I always support the struggle of the Palestinians, who are suppressed by Isreal,” he said in his caption, which was uploaded with the photographs.

Ismail Sabri’s action has received positive comments from his followers, who generally praised it with the status being shared to several social sites, including Twitter and Facebook. — Bernama
