JAKARTA, Aug 3 — A Malaysian citizen was reported to have been arrested for attempting to smuggle crystal methamphetamine through Batam International Port in Riau Island province.
“The suspect arrived at the port around 2.30 pm on Saturday aboard Dumai Ekspress 2 ferry from Setulang Laut, Malaysia,” The Jakarta Post quoted Batam Authority’s (BP Batam) director of integrated service and public relations Dwi Djoko Wiwoho as saying here today.
According to the report, port authorities became suspicious when the suspect seemed uneasy when approaching the x-ray machine.
The suspect was found to have around one kilogramme of the drugs, known locally as shabu-shabu, hidden under his clothing in his underware. “The evidence weighed around one kilogram and had a street value of more than Rp1.5 billion (RM408,721)” he said, as quoted by The Jakarta Post.
The suspect and the evidence are now under the authority of the Batam Customs and Excise Office in Batuampar for further investigation.
