GEORGE TOWN, July 23 — Over 20 customers ran helter-skelter when a Proton Waja vehicle rammed into Jelutong food court here early today.

Penang Northeast district police chief ACP Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said the 2.30am incident angered members of the public, who beat up the driver before he was rescued by a friend who arrived at the scene shortly after that.

“The man, in his 30s, sustained minor injuries and is being treated at the Penang hospital here,” he told reporters here.

Asked if the man was driving under the influence of alcohol, he said the matter was still under investigation. — Bernama
