KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 — The woman caught on camera verbally abusing an elderly man in a road rage incident said today she had not apologised for the incident on her Facebook page and that her account had been hacked.
Siti Fairah Ashykan told The Star Online that she had deactivated her account yesterday, after the video showing her yelling at the man and hammering at his car with a steering lock went viral on social media.
The 30-year-old known as “Kiki” said she apologised to the 68-year-old retiree and his wife personally after meeting them at a police station in Kuantan to “settle things amicably”.
“I deactivated my Facebook account yesterday (Yesterday) and haven’t been posting anything on my company page since. Somebody hacked into my account,” she was quoted saying.
“After that incident, we went to the police station in Kuantan and settled things amicably. I calmed down and immediately apologised to the man.
“I even met his wife and hugged her. The uncle accepted my apology and told me not to do that anymore,” she added.
Earlier today, apologies purportedly from Kiki were posted numerous times on her Facebook page called “Kiki Kerja Kahwin”.
In one post, Kiki said she was aware of her mistake and feels sorry about it.
“I read all those tweets,” the post said. “I feel you. I know Im wrong. There is time in your life that you should forgive others.
“I just want people to remove all my videos. Respect my privacy and consider this thing happen to your family.”
Another posting said: “Please spread the words of my sincere apologies to all Malaysian about my actions.
“That’s not my intention. That’s my personal mistakes and anger. I’m alone to be blame in this event.”
Despite saying the Facebook apology had not come from her, however, Kiki admitted to The Star Online that she had made a “terrible mistake”.
“I accept whatever abuse that is hurled at me,” she was quoted as saying.
She also went on to apologise for the incident, saying: “I just want to say sorry to all Malaysians for my actions.”
A social media storm erupted after the video documenting the woman verbally abusing an elderly man and hitting his car with a steering lock was uploaded on video-sharing site YouTube.
In the 2.33-minute clip, the Malay woman is shown smashing away at the elderly man’s car following a fender bender and demanding RM2,000 for the accident.
Frustrated that the man would not pay her on the spot, she then abused him racially.
“You think you are Chinese, you are better than us! You are very stupid!” she shouts, before accusing him of intentionally hitting her car.
The woman later shifts her Peugeot forward to examine the damage, before getting in her car and explaining to passers-by that her response was because “Dia Cina (He is Chinese)”.
It is unclear what the outcome was, as the video ends shortly after.
Twitter users later reacted with abhorrence to the woman’s behaviour, calling her aggressive and racial response disgraceful, disgusting, shameful, and stupid, among others.
Internet users even used her vehicle registration number, which was visible in the video, to trace the woman’s identity before posting this information online, prompting more targeted abuse against her.
The police have since confirmed that the 67-year-old road bully victim was fined for failing to yield when exiting a junction and causing the accident.
Despite the verbal attack, the man has refused to lodge a report against the woman on the matter, earning him the affection of Internet users who have taken to calling him “uncle”.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar called the woman “fierce”, however, and said the police will investigate her for road bullying.
