KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 ― The Environment Department will strictly monitor reclamation activities in Malaysia's coastal areas near Singapore to prevent cross border pollution.
In this regard, the developer of the reclamation works at Tanjung Kupang and Tanjung Puteri in Johor has voluntarily halted the projects.
A detailed environmental impact assessment and hydraulic study are being carried out in both areas by the developer, according to the department.
It said the developer was also monitoring the air quality and navigational safety at the Johor Straits.
Singapore had earlier expressed concern over the likelihood of cross border pollution arising from the land reclamation being carried out near its territory. ― Bernama
