KUALA LUMPUR, July 8 — The KTM East Coast Intercity service was disrupted following the derailment of the ‘Ekspres Wau’ from Kuala Lumpur to Tumpat, Kelantan at 1.50am this morning.
Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) Berhad in a statement said in the incident at KM80 between Kamayang-Triang, one of the eight coaches carrying 200 passengers derailed from the track.
“None of the passengers were injured and all 79 passengers were transferred to the coach in front,” the statement said.
The coach which derailed was cut off to enable the train to continue its journey.
Following the incident, the five KTM Intercity services were disrupted including Train no 29 — Ekspress Wau (Tumpat — Kuala Lumpur Sentral) which ended at the Mentakab station and passengers had to continue their journey by bus to Kuala Lumpur and the stations in between.
The service of train No. 26 — Ekspres Senandung Timuran (Woodlands — Tumpat) would end at Kuala Lipis and all passengers would continue their journey by bus to Gemas station before boarding the train to Woodlands station.
Train No 91 — Shuttle (Woodlands — Tumpat) would end at Kuala Lipis station while Train No 92 — Shuttle (Tumpat — Woodlands) would end at Gemas station.
Passengers could obtain a return of their full fare for the affected services or a change on the date of travel.
