Johor Sultan’s uncle, Tunku Osman, laid to rest

JOHOR BARU, July 7 — The late Tunku Osman Almarhum Tunku Temenggong Ahmad, the uncle of the Sultan of Johor, was laid to rest at the Mahmoodiah Royal Mausoleum about 2.30pm today.

Tunku Osman, former head of the Johor Royal Council, passed away at the Johor Specialist Hospital about 7.30pm yesterday from old age.

The Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar was at the burial, accompanied by his son, the Tengku Mahkota Johor, Tunku Ismail, and the ruler’s other children.

Also present were Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, State Secretary Datuk Ismail Karim, Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Mokhtar Mohd Shariff and state executive councillors.

The late Tunku Osman, 82, leaves two sons and two daughters.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin paid his last respects on the late Tunku Osman at the latter’s residence in Jalan Abdul Samad, here.

Accompanied by Johor state assembly Speaker Tan Sri Mohamad Aziz, Muhyiddin arrived at the residence at 12.2Opm where he spent half an hour talking to the bereaved family and also joined the funeral prayers.

Mohamed Khaled and the state exco members also paid their last respects on the late Tunku Osman. — Bernama
