Detainee dies in police lock-up

KUANTAN, July 6 — A 40 year-old male detainee died after fainting in the lock-up of Maran police headquarters (IPD) yesterday.

Maran police chief DSP Sulaiman A Hamid said the detainee fainted at 12.30 pm before police called an ambulance to take him to Jengka Hospital.

“When the ambulance arrived, the man was found to be lifeless and paramedics confirmed that he had died.

“The detainee who suffered from chronic diabetes had been taken to hospital for treatment before,” he said when contacted today.

The detainee was arrested by police on June 16 and was charged under Section 3 (1) of Drug Abuse Act 1983.

He was to be sent to a drug rehabilitation centre in Gambang for two years. — Bernama
