KUALA LUMPUR, June 27 — Petronas has awarded the Programme Management Consultancy contract for the Refinery and Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project in Pengerang, Johor to the Technip-Fluor consortium.

The national oil company said the contract includes the overall project and site management, project management services for engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning packages within RAPID throughout the pre-award, engineering and procurement, construction and commissioning as well as warranty management and close-out phases.

RAPID is part of the bigger Petronas Pengerang Integrated Complex (PIC) development, whose associated facilities include the Pengerang Co-generation Plant, Re-gasification Terminal 2, Air Separation Unit, Raw Water Supply Project as well as Crude and Product Tanks.

PIC forms Johor’s Pengerang Integrated Petroleum Complex (PIPC), which is under Malaysia’s Economic Transformation Programme to establish new engines of growth for Malaysia.

RAPID is estimated to cost US$16 billion (RM51.3 billion) while the associated facilities will involve an investment of about US$11 billion.

PIC is poised for its refinery start-up by early 2019. — Bernama
