89 offenders detained by Terengganu police under Ops Cantas

KUALA TERENGGANU, June 24 — Terengganu police detained 89 individuals, including those with warrants of arrest, for various offences under Ops Cantas from June 16 to 19. 

State CID chief ACP Wan Abdul Aziz Wan Hamzah said the offenders, aged between 20 and 30, were detained at snooker centres, cyber cafes as well as public places in the state. 

 “Ops Cantas which is jointly carried out by the Commercial and Narcotics division over four days, we conducted 156 raids and 211 inspections at locations we had identified. 

 “All of those detained were found to be involved in fraud, drug, intimidation, robberies, thefts and burglaries,” he said at a media conference here today. 

According to him, Ops Cantas had succeeded in curbing criminal activities in the state, including drug trafficking and fraud, and the operation would be stepped up to eradicate activities such as prostitution and secret societies. 

“We will be carrying out the operation indefinitely to combat criminal activities in the state,” he said, adding that Terengganu police would be setting up a women Ops Cantas team soon. — Bernama
