KUALA TERENGGANU, June 14 — The National Unity Memorandum Preparation Committee has appealed to the Government not to succumb to those quarters which sought to abolish the Sedition Act 1948, in the interest of certain individuals, said its chairman, Datuk Ibrahim Ali.

On the other hand, the committee has made a proposal on the creation of a truly effective instrument for national security, he said.

Ibrahim, who is also president of non-governmental Malay supremacy organisation, Pertubuhan Pribumi Perkasa Malaysia (Perkasa), was speaking to reporters after a Public Dialogue and Fourth National Unity Issues here today.

The dialogue, attended by 200 people representing 50 non-governmental organisations was held during a nationwide tour scheduled to end in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah tomorrow.

Ibrahim said the committee was in the process of preparing a draft on the proposal which would be tabled to the National Unity Consultative Council for a convention to be held. — Bernama
