Government to beef up search for MH370, says Hishammuddin

RAUB, June 14 — The government has assured family members of Flight MH370 passengers and crew that search for the aircraft will be enhanced with the help of several countries including China and Australia.

Acting Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said it will be made via strong bilateral ties with the countries concerned and Asean members.

“This assurance comes from the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak), China, Australia and Asean countries.

“I know that the search is not an easy task. However, the support we received from friends has raised our spirit to continue with the search,” he told reporters after attending a wedding reception hosted by Pahang State Exco for Cooperatives, Entrepreneurship and Consumerism, Datuk Shahiruddin Ab Moin, here today.    

Hishammuddin said this when asked about further government action after 100 days Flight MH370 with 239 passengers including 12 crew went missing on March 8.

The Boeing 777-200ER aircraft disappeared from radar screens about an hour after departing KL International Airport (KLIA) at 12.41 midnight.

On March 24, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak announced that Flight MH370 was believed to have ended in the southern Indian Ocean.

Hishammuddin said strong ties with the countries involved is important in the search for Flight MH370, in addition to help from the family members.

“Ties between the three countries (China, Australia, Malaysia) must be further strengthened so that no geopolitical conspiracy can hinder the search for MH370.” — Bernama
