KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 — Huawei has revealed its latest addition to its smartphone portfolio with the unveiling of the Ascend P7 at the Grand Hyatt hotel yesterday.

The smartphone manufacturer also expanded its list of products in the local market by introducing the MediaPad X1 7.0 and the MediaPad M1 8.0 tablets, and the Ascend G6 phone.

Smartphone users can expect high quality mobile experience with 4G LTE connectivity and other features all in one device.

The Ascend P7 offers users a sophisticated mobile operation through the five-inch touchscreen display, which is encapsulated in durable Corning Gorilla Glass 3 front and rear covers.

It enters the Malaysian market a few weeks after its international launch and Huawei claims it is the slimmest 4G LTE smartphone in the world at 6.5mm.

Huawei Technologies Malaysia country director (consumer business group) Gary Xu said despite being a “young tiger” in the smartphone market, the Ascend P7 met the needs of consumers who wanted a durable and sophisticated device that had a balance between form and function.

“As a leader in the mobile broadband and next-generation LTE network, Huawei is optimising compatibility between networks and devices in Malaysia,” he said.

Users can also expect a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera with all the functions of a DSLR camera, which can be activated within 1.2 seconds for quicker, easier access.

For those addicted to selfies, there is also an eight-megapixel forward-facing camera, which features 10 levels of auto-facial enhancement with built-in ImageSmart 2.0 software.

A smart feature to conserve battery will be a life-saver for heavy users — the phone has a 24-hour standby mode when battery life hits 10 per cent.

Xu said Malaysia was a crucial market in the company’s growth strategy because it was the cusp on the 4G LTE evolution.

The Ascend P7 is available in black and white and retails at RM1,499.

The MediaPad X1 7.0 LTE and MediaPad M1 8.0 LTE are available for RM1,399 and RM1,099 respectively.
