KUALA LUMPUR, June 10 — Selangor PAS has challenged Umno to implement hudud in states currently administered by Barisan Nasional (BN), according to a report by news portal Harakah Daily.

The Islamist party also questioned Selangor Umno lawmakers on their plans to motion a debate on hudud at the state assembly sitting next week, saying the move appears to have been mooted only after BN lost the state.

“Why do they talk about hudud only when they have become the opposition in the state?” Selangor PAS commissioner Iskandar Abdul Samad said.

Iskandar said PAS had informed citizens about Shariah criminal laws and passed enactments towards implementing hudud as soon as they won Kelantan.

“Meanwhile in Terengganu, state BN government has rejected hudud implementation.” the Cempaka assemblyman said.

Selangor state speaker Hannah Yeoh confirmed the study on hudud to be among four proposals she received  for debate from BN.

The proposal which seeks to look into the possibility of enforcing hudud in Selangor, was submitted by Sungai Air Tawar BN assemblyman Kamarol Zaki Abdul Malik last week.

In Selangor BN is represented by 12 assemblymen, all from Umno.

Selangor PAS has been reported expressing support for hudud to be implemented in Kelantan.

Iskandar said in April that PAS Selangor will wait for Putrajaya’s reception of the  controversial Islamic penal law before proposing it in Selangor.
