KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 — Barisan Nasional’s Datuk Mah Siew Keong and DAP’s Ramkarpal Singh were sworn as members of parliament this morning.

Mah and Ram, who are MPs for Teluk Intan and Bukit Gelugor, respectively, were both clad in crisp suits and took their oaths before Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Datuk Ronald Kiandee.

Mah edged out DAP’s Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud by a slim 238 vote majority in the Teluk Intan by-election on May 31, while Ramkarpal trounced four opponents with a comfortable 37,659 majority in the Bukit Gelugor by-election on May 25.

The by-elections were triggered by the deaths of DAP lawmakers. Karpal Singh died in car crash on April 17, while Seah Leong Peng succumbed to cancer on May 1.

Dewan Rakyat recorded its condolences for the two MPs and for the late Sultan Azlan Shah of Perak.
