TELUK INTAN, May 31 — Voter turnout in the pro-opposition Pasir Bedamar area far outnumbers locations with more Barisan Nasional (BN) supporters, Datuk Mah Siew Keong conceded today as a possible indication of the final result.

According to him, as of 11 am today nearly 50 per cent of voters have voted in Pasir Bedamar, compared to less than 20 per cent in Changkat Jong.

“It’s going to be tough. We’ll accept any results the voters choose,” Mah told reporters here.

DAP won the state seat of Pasir Bedamar in last year’s general election, while BN secured Changkat Jong. Both come under the Teluk Intan federal constituency.

Despite that, Mah suggested that most voters in Changkat Jong may not have voted yet as they are still working in the estates and will only do so in the afternoon.

Mah also said that he saw many cars with Federal Territory’s ‘W’ registration numbers, indicating the number of outstation voters who returned home to vote.

Yesterday morning, Mah was reported saying that the Teluk Intan by-election tomorrow should be decided by the votes of local residents as they would be the one staying put here.

Acknowledging that outstation voters are more likely to vote DAP, Mah urged those who are returning home to factor in the livelihood of local folks when they cast their votes.

Gerakan president Mah, 53, faces DAP’s Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud, 26, in a straight fight today.

As of 1.00 pm, a little over half of the 60,349-strong registered voters have cast their ballots.
