DUNGUN, May 31 — Three local fishermen are feared drowned after going out to fish in waters around Pulau Tenggol on Monday.

The trio were identified as Che Wan Mohd Radzi Che Wan Da, 48, Wan Kamarudin Wan Ali, 52, and Mamat Che Ngah, 39.

Dungun police chief Supt Ahmad Zailani Yaacub said the three had gone fishing at 3pm in a yellow boat with registration plate TFA 1946 six days ago.

He said usually all the fishermen would return by Wednesday but until now the three had failed to do so.

“Concerned for their safety, the wife of one of the fishermen lodged a report at Dungun District Police Headquarters last night.

“Efforts to contact them through their mobile phones has also failed,” Ahmad Zailani told Bernama here today.

Search is underway for the missing trio.

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Fire and Rescue Department and the Marine Police had also been informed. — Bernama
