KOTA BARU, May 31 — The police said they have viewed the footage of a viral video that showed a woman flogging the alleged rapist of her 13-year-old daughter and are identifying the ones involved, The Star Online reported today.

The 37-second clip, which has gone viral, showed a woman hitting the man with a stick while scolding him as a crowd watches in an incident that reportedly took place in Tumpat yesterday.

In the video, the 28-year-old man, whose hands and legs are tied up and his pants pulled down, was being hit repeatedly on his head and body.

State CID chief Asst Comm Lai Yong said the man is being treated at the hospital for injuries to his head and body.

The man and another 22 year-old suspect was later arrested for the rape of the 13-year-old girl, in Tawang, Bachok, on May 22.

“People should not take the law into their own hands even if they believe they are right to do so.

“They must leave it to the police to act. In this case, we hope that the woman and the others seen in the video will surrender themselves before they are arrested,” he said, as quoted by The Star.

The parties involved in the assault could also be arrested and face prosecution under Section 326 of the Penal Code for causing grievous hurt, he added.

ACP Lai also advised the public not to take the law into their own hands and to hand the suspects over to the police to be dealt with.
