SIK, May 29 — About 200 people here are forced to depend on polluted water from nearby hills as the water supplied by Syarikat Air Darul Aman (Sada) last reached their homes, quite a while ago.
Four years to be exact!
The 40 families in Kampung Desa Keda Gulau had to fork out their own money to buy pipes and build water storage ponds in the nearby jungle, via gotong royong projects.
The residents fear they could contact the disease, leptospirosis if the water was contaminated with rat urine.
They claim the water has also become increasingly polluted over the past several months and dries up during the drought season.
Kampung Desa Keda Gulau 4P (Project Planning and Implementing Team) chairman Zainuri Abu Rahim, 52, said no solution had been found despite the many promises made by the authorities over the sorry state of affairs.
A resident Tengku Zaidi Tengku Ahmad Yusoff, 42, said the problem of clean water supply in the village had not received any attention despite the matter dragging on for four years.
“Sada will provide water for a day or two when we voice out our grievances but after that, we are forced to use polluted water for our drinking and cleaning needs,” he said.
A housewife, Suraya Bahari, 31, regretted that no action had been taken by the authorities concerned over the problems although they had been notified numerous times.
“We are disappointed because we have to use polluted water for the past four years. The promises made by the authorities to solve our water woes have not been honoured,” she said. — Bernama
