SUBANG JAYA, May 29 — Giant hypermarket will be having its own radio station broadcasting to all its 128 retail outlets nationwide from August 1.

Giant Radio will feature selections of local and international music, and infomercials, shout-outs and promos.

GCH Retail marketing director Ruben Brusch said this was the first time a big retailer was undertaking an in-house radio broadcast system.

“We are really excited about this initiative as it gives us a good opportunity to further engage with our customers on a daily basis,”  he said at the soft launch of the radio station at Giant hypermarket in USJ1.

“Our own radio station gives us the platform to entertain customers while they shop and provide a community service by keeping customers up to date on happenings at their neighbourhood mall.”

Brusch said Giant Radio would be a channel of communication between GCH and its partners because it allowed the airtime to communicate special events, messages, offers and promotions.

“As for customers, we hope that this will change their shopping experience at our hypermarkets, and make it better and fun for the entire family,” he said.

Giant Radio will go on live and uninterrupted from 10am to 10pm daily.

The system, built above Giant hypermarket’s existing infrastructure, will broadcast a variety of Malay, English and Chinese songs.

Based on demographic and psychographic research, the broadcast in each hypermarket will be skewed toward its demographic majority.

In the bigger cities and towns, the broadcast will be tailored to air 50 per cent English music as well as a variety of Chinese and Malay music.

The shows will be reviewed once a month to ensure they are relevant to the targeted customers.
