KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) wants the government to review the method used to provide diesel subsidy to avoid incurring further losses.
MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed said this was necessary due to many leakages in the method and to also prevent diesel smuggling.
He said over the past five years, the commission had made 90 arrests for misappropriation of diesel, involving the authorities and irresponsible groups.
“If the leakage can be reduced, the excess allocation can be channelled to the government for matters of public interest,” he told reporters after a journalism workshop with MACC to eliminate corruption here.
He advised those with information on diesel smuggling or abuse of diesel subsidy to lodge a report with the commission. — Bernama
